How The Sauna Helped My Skin, All the Changes I’ve Seen!

Saunas have many benefits but I’m loving how the sauna helps skin.  It’s never too late to get started!

I’ve been using the sauna consistently for four months now and have noticed some remarkable changes to my skin conditions. I started using the sauna with hoping to benefit my mental health and didn’t even consider other benefits until I started noticing big changes to my skin.

Skin Softness

My skin has become amazingly soft and smooth! I don’t use any lotions on my skin (besides moisturizer for my face). I used to have super dry arms and legs and little bumps on the back on the back of my arms and chest but all that is completely gone. As well as any bumps on the backs of my legs an bum…all gone. I always shower right after the sauna to clean off the sweat and any toxins that may be coming out of my skin and it feels amazing!

No Dry Skin

This was super surprising to me! I have no dry skin! I started using the sauna in the middle of winter in a very dry climate. This time of year is especially hard on my skin, or so I thought. I also thought a dry sauna would cause dry skin but the opposite has happened.

I didn’t notice this right away because I wasn’t expecting it. One day I was thinking about how I couldn’t even remember the last time I put lotion on my arms or legs then it hit me… The sauna has helped get rid of my dry skin!

Acne

On my face I have no acne, which wasn’t a real problem before but I did have open pores on my cheeks and tiny blackheads on my nose (which I’ve had as long as I can remember) and they are now all gone as well. I didn’t change any products I use.

I always use this at morning and night for cleansing. It is very lightweight and a miracle worker for removing make-up super easy as well as any dirtiness on your skin. Also I’m lazy and this is real easy.

I also always used this scrub in the shower on my face and body in the shower. I have a very simple routine mostly because I’ve tried all sorts of expensive products that haven’t met their claims.

I wasn’t expecting such positive changes to my skin with sauna use. The sauna is very hot and dry which I honestly thought would be harming my skin or drying it out. I also thought all the sweating would cause breakouts, but the opposite has happened.

In the beginning…

When I first started using the sauna my skin felt really hot as I sat in it especially my face. It felt a little like how it feels when its burning in the sun.

With time this has changed, I feel hot but not burning skin. I think my skin has purged or burned off some toxins that had been on or near the surface. I also sweat sooner now (which is a good thing) which probably helps cool my skin and keeps it from feeling like its burning.

I could only sit in the for 10 minutes at the start. It felt so hot on my skin and at times I would feel dizzy. I worked my way up to 20 minutes at least 3 days per week. According to scientific studies this seems to be the sweet spot for receiving the benefits of sauna use.

Wrinkles

Sadly, I haven’t noticed any change in the lines on my face. They haven’t been made worse but I can’t say I have any noticeable changes. I am going to start taking pics though because I’m curious if anything will happen for wrinkles with more time using the sauna.

Skin Coloring

The color in my skin has definitely evened out. I used to have redness and unevenness in color especially on my cheeks but that it gone now too!

Body Odor

I sweat a lot in the sauna but not in normal life situations. I wear deodorant daily, I’m not brave enough to go all natural or anything but I have noticed I smell less. I’m not sure how to explain exactly but I just don’t smell like anything at all anymore.

There are also some who claim less stinky toots and number 2’s with sauna use, but my toots have always smelled like flowers because I’m a lady. Seriously though, I can’t say I’ve noticed a change here but I also didn’t think this was a big problem I needed to be noticing so now I’m curious.

Nails

I’ve had my nails natural for a while now. I am a low maintenance girl but the one thing I love is acrylic nails. This hasn’t been in my budget for a while so I’ve embraced my natural nail. They are growing fast and are stronger than ever. I can’t say for sure this is related to sauna use or just timing because I quit getting my nails done.

I’m curious to know if anyone has seen this kind of change in nail growth with using the sauna. Sauna use has been proven to increase the Human Growth Hormone (HGH) so nail growth could be a side effect.

Hair

I’ve worried that the sauna would cause damage to my hair because of the hot temperature but I have no noticeable damage. I color my hair and don’t do anything special to protect it from the heat.

I haven’t noticed any type of positive changes either. Sauna use does stimulate blood flow which in turn should provide more nutrients to hair follicles and promote hair growth.

I have long hair so it might be that its less noticeable when it grows but I am still going to say I have had normal hair growth over the time I’ve been using the sauna.

It’s been exciting!

Its really fun to notice all these positive changes in my skin. I really wish I knew about using the sauna earlier because it is so easy! I use the sauna at my gym that I already was paying for so it costs me nothing more to use.

Home sauna

As nice as the gym sauna is would be amazing to have a sauna in my home. Amazon even sells them prime like this one here. The convenience, privacy and reliability would make life easier.
